Our impact

We're here to help build a healthier, more prosperous Wales - accelerating the journey from promising ideas to real‑world improvements in health and social care.

By bringing together government, industry, the NHS, academia and the third sector, we help tackle Wales’ most pressing health challenges, while driving the economic growth that innovation in life sciences makes possible.

Our Year in Review highlights the tangible outcomes of this work, projects that improve the lives of people across Wales, empower frontline colleagues, attract investment, and strengthen the foundations of a growing Welsh health and social care system.

Guided by our values of passion, collaboration, expertise and professionalism, we provide tailored support at every stage of the innovation journey – from refining ideas to funding guidance, business case development, project management and sector intelligence. We help create an environment which allows innovation to thrive. The result is a dynamic ecosystem that enhances the health, wealth and wellbeing of Wales and its people.

Our vision for the future

This year, we’ve continued to focus on creating the right environment for innovation to thrive.

We’ve been working alongside our partners across government, industry, the NHS, academia, and the third sector to help build the conditions that will allow Wales’ life sciences sector to grow, compete and deliver for years to come.

Cancer care is one of our priority areas, and the Tackling Cancer Initiative sits at the heart of our work. Working in collaboration, the ambition is to ensure that innovations are matched to service pressures and patient needs, making a real difference to cancer care in Wales. NHS Wales is central to progressing innovation, with its commitment to research, clinical trials, and digital transformation creating the right conditions to test and scale new solutions.

We’re proud to act as a connector in the health and social care ecosystem. Over the past year, we’ve supported more than 200 companies, strengthening links between academia, industry, and the NHS to help innovations move from idea to impact.

The life sciences sector in Wales is strong - with £3.59 billion in turnover, more than 13,000 people employed across 287 companies, and specialised clusters emerging across Wales, the sector is demonstrating both scale and competitiveness. At the 2025 Wales Investment Summit, the life sciences sector was named a priority growth area, reinforcing Wales as a place where world‑class research, skilled talent, and a supportive innovation environment come together.
