“The Welsh Value Based Healthcare Charter reflects our commitment to working in true partnership across Wales to improve outcomes that matter most to patients. With partners such as Life Sciences Hub Wales, we’re scaling impactful innovations - including QuicDNA and the Next‑Generation CVD Population Health programme - to deliver lasting value for patients and the NHS.”

High Economic Potential Programme (HEPP)
Targeted support for innovations with high economic potential
This programme provides targeted support for Welsh life sciences innovations that could have a real impact both on care and on the Welsh economy. In one example, coordinated support from HEPP has unlocked growth potential for Goggleminds, a simulation training provider in Cardiff, whose virtual reality, Mediverse, allows immersive training in virtual clinical settings. HEPP helped to identify what was needed to scale their work.
Mediverse is now being used in a wide range of ways, from sepsis management training for multidisciplinary teams, to chemotherapy preparation simulations, and enhancing medication administration in community settings. We’ve been the driving force across all facets of this programme, from its original design and strategic leadership to its ongoing evolution, delivery, and the cultivation of ecosystem-wide partnerships to secure its future.
Data Encryption Project
Leading the way in privacy-first health data innovation
Welsh company Pontiro provides advanced anonymisation software that removes sensitive patient information from medical images and reports whilst preserving clinical detail. This is enabling clinicians, researchers and AI developers innovating within the Welsh health system to safely use data without compromising patient confidentiality.
During 2025, the company secured £350,000 in approved investment, alongside Innovate UK support, and signed its first commercial contracts. Pontiro’s deployment with the National Imaging Academy Wales is supported by our ongoing project management, stakeholder coordination, and strategic introductions, helping them secure funding, win NHS contracts, and accelerate radiology research and education in Wales.
“Life Sciences Hub Wales has played an important role in Pontiro’s journey, helping identify the initial problem to be solved within NHS Wales and bringing together The Alacrity Foundation and key NHS partners to form the project team and define the project scope. Their continued project management support has been instrumental in guiding the collaboration and enabling progress throughout the project.”
Lewis Bowen, Chief Executive Officer of Pontiro
Careers Wales partnership
Future-proofing the nation’s life sciences talent pool
Our partnership with Careers Wales aims to prevent future skills shortages within the life sciences sector. By bringing together schools, industry, academia and public services, we’re building a pipeline of talent – from the classroom directly into high-growth careers. Digital tools and virtual networking are helping to link up rural schools with industrial hubs to ensure we’re cultivating a STEM-literate talent pool across the whole of the country.
We want to encourage young people to consider careers in high-priority areas such as AI-diagnostics and precision medicine, fostering future graduates or guiding people into roles requiring apprenticeship and technical training.
Wales combines research excellence, integrated healthcare for 3.2 million people, and a supportive business environment.
Collaboration across government, industry and NHS accelerates trials, innovation and treatments to deliver faster diagnoses, economic growth, improved lives and exceptional opportunities for businesses to establish and scale.
